USA Agricultural Adjuvants Market Size
USA agricultural adjuvants market valued at USD 206.21 million in 2022 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.14% over the forecast period 2024-2031.
Adjuvants are chemical substances that are intended for improving the performance of pesticide formulations in agricultural practices. Adjuvants are added to a pesticide product (in-formulation) or pesticide spray mixture (tank-mix) to enhance the pesticide’s performance and/or the physical properties of the spray mixture. Agricultural adjuvants range from surfactants and crop oil concentrates to utility materials such as wetting agents, foaming agents and compatibility agents. Nitrogen fertilizers such as urea and ammonium nitrate are also used as adjuvants. Adjuvants evolved as a key tool in the armor of farming communities in precision and protected farming practices owing to their capability of improving pesticide efficiency. The American Society for Testing and Materials International (ASTM) and Council of Producers and Distributors of Agrotechnology (CPDA) is regulating adjuvant products in the U.S.
The growing consumption of pesticides and increasing utilization of adjuvants with pesticides are the major drivers for the growth of the agricultural adjuvants market. However, the toxicity concerns associated with the use of synthetic adjuvants is limiting the market growth. The activator adjuvants dominated the USA agricultural adjuvants market in 2019, with a market share of more than 71%. This type of adjuvant is also expected to see the best growth prospects by 2027 due to its application on a large scale to increase the efficiency of crop protection products. Among applications, the herbicides segment accounted for the largest share of 76% as they are a major group of crop protection chemicals used in agriculture.

Market Dynamics
Increased infestation of pests
Global warming can lead to extreme changes in weather conditions such as longer droughts, increased rainfall, shorter winters, and more frequent storms. Such volatile weather conditions affect plant growth and increase pest infestation. The increase in temperature leads to higher growth rates and higher reproduction in insects and unmanageable weed development. A variable climate also increases the prevalence of crop and plant diseases. For instance, an increase in precipitation leads to the spread of needle blight. Needle blight is a fungal disease found in plants. Adjuvant-based pesticides are required to control this type of infection as well as pest infestation.
Managing glyphosate-resistant weeds
Genetically engineered or roundup-ready crops are resistant to glyphosate. Such crops are treated with only one chemical regularly. Some weeds are controlled due to their high susceptibility to the chemical, whereas others need to be treated with different herbicides. Over the years, weed communities have become unmanageable and need to be treated with herbicides more than once. To increase the effectiveness of herbicides, adjuvants are added to them. The increasing use of herbicides on genetically engineered crops is contributing to the growth of the agricultural adjuvant market
Market Segmentation Analysis
Because of their ability to reduce surface tension and increase solubilization, activator adjuvants are suitable for a wide range of applications. Because of these characteristics, its use in other applications is rapidly growing. With the increasing adoption of activator adjuvants, the USA agricultural adjuvants market is expected to witness strong growth during the forecast period.
The modes of activator adjuvant include reduction of spray solution surface tension to enhance contact area, increased spray retention, and protection of the herbicide in the spray solution. Activator adjuvants enhance the herbicide activity when added to spray tanks. Salt adjuvants are also used as activator adjuvants to fertilize and augment the growth of the crop in the short term.
